When National Interfaith Week was opened at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in York the Lord Mayor Sonia Crisp and Ian Crisp (the Lord Mayor’s Consort) visited the Church’s Family History Centre and were impressed with the extensive and free resources available and expressed a desire to come back to explore their own Family History.
The Lord Mayor began her investigations by completing an ‘easy-start’ form; outlining some key information about her known ancestors. Then it was suggested by Yorkshire Church Leader President Bill Kimberling that one of the local experts offer further help with the research.
Jeff Walsh is a leading Family History Consultant at the centre who happily agreed to voluntarily help. He met several times with the Mayor and her Consort and found enough family members to complete a six to seven generation Pedigree Chart! He also discovered many Family History records for the family. Newly discovered names were added to those already known and entered into an ‘Oak Tree’: Seven Generation Pedigree Chart, which was expertly drawn up in calligraphy by Jeff’s daughter Diane Jackson. The framed chart was then presented on Thursday the 19th of May to the Lord Mayor and her Consort.
The Family History Centre is open to the public and free to use. It is based at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, West Bank, Acomb Road, York, YO24 4HA.
