Missionaries answer ‘clean up’ plea

Berryfields group cleaning up

Elder Madsen and Elder Jost recently answered a call for an area tidy up and gave service with residents to an area in Aylesbury called Berryfields.

A ward member spotted the call on the facebook page only the day before the scheduled date, and quickly contacted the companionship.

The next day, Saturday 16 November, they were equipped with gloves, high-vis jackets, black bags and litter pickers, and got stuck in with their new friends.

The residents were surprised that two young church members were there helping them, and delighted at how much they willingly achieved.

Elder Madsen said that although a small band, everyone worked with great enthusiasm and cleared many bags in the allotted 10 am – noon time slot.  He said that he felt it was probably his favourite opportunity for service during his mission so far.

He told the residents that his Mission President, David Checketts’ was always encouraging his missionaries to find meaningful service in the community as frequently as possible.

President Checketts is the former president and general manager of the Utah Jazz, former president of the New York Knicks and original owner of Real Salt Lake.  He is also a former LDS stake president.

Berryfield Council later posted a picture on their facebook page congratulating the volunteers for clearing over 22 bags.
